Chocolate Frogs, a Harry Potter Inspired Treat

Chocolate. Freaking. Frogs. You guys, I really nailed this one. Not only are these treats delicious, but they’re the most perfect magical spin on the Chocolate Frogs our friend Harry Potter enjoys when he visits Honeydukes. I filled these particular frogs with hazelnut spread, but I’m going to lay around some more by adding marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, and rice cereal.

To make the Chocolate Frogs, I start by melting some chocolate chips in a double boiler. A double boiler is just a pot of boiling water with a bowl filled with the chocolate over the top. The boiling water melts the chocolate gently without burning it.

Then I add a layer of chocolate to my frog molds and use a spoon to spread it over the mold completely. I pop it into the fridge for five minutes to harden.

I add a little scoop of hazelnut spread as the next layer and put it back into the freezer for another five minutes.

Then I add one final layer of chocolate and spread it over the hazelnut spread completely. The frogs go into the freezer one final time to harden completely.

Once the Chocolate Frogs are completely set, I pop them out of the molds. They can be enjoyed immediately, but I try to resist and save them for movie night.

We have an October tradition of watching Harry Potter and having our own little Honeydukes set up for the night. We make our own Butterbeer, wear our house colors (Hufflepuff pride!), and light candles all over the living room. This year, these Chocolate Frogs will make their debut appearance and I cannot wait to see my kiddos faces when I reveal the chocolatey treats.
