Valentine’s Day Hugs and Kisses Treats

These adorable little Valentine’s Day Hugs and Kisses Treats are and easy way to transform traditional Valentine’s Day candy into a special gift for a class, friend, neighbor, or even your honey cakes. They are crazy simple and the perfect combination of salty and sweet that satisfies all of your cravings. I love to make these Hugs and Kisses Treats for my kiddos and pack a few in their school lunches everyday leading up to Valentine’s Day or whip up a batch before we gather for family movie night with Netflix. It’s just my small way of lovin’ on them the best way I communicate my love: through food.
To start, I get a bunch of square pretzels. They look like miniature checkerboards, don’t they?
I lay out my checkerboard pretzels on a baking sheet. Then I take Hugs candies and place just one over each checkerboard. This was a great task for my kiddos to help with. Though several Hugs went missing in the process, ha!
Next, I pop them in the oven on my lowest setting, which is 200F, and allow them to just start to melt. I don’t want them to completely melt because that would just be a mess. A delicious mess, but a mess nonetheless! Usually it’s about 3-5 minutes for them to soften up enough.
As soon as I remove them from the oven, I take colored chocolate candies and gently smoosh one into the Hugs. Smoosh. It’s a proper baking term. Well, I’m making it one.
Once all the Hugs are smooshed, I’ll let them cool for a couple hours until the chocolate hardens back up. If you’re in a hurry, pop them in the fridge for a few minutes.
That was painless, wasn’t it, friends? It’s really such a simple recipe that results in a final product that’s just perfect and beautiful. Plus they’re such a fun way to show some love to someone you care about during Valentine’s Day.
A year ahead for the family is all about taking on new adventures. If 2015 is any indication, they could be good, bad or just plain hysterical! There’s no other family that can relate more to this than the Croods – you know, the prehistoric crew whose every day is a new adventure (or disaster) – because while our stories may differ from the dark ages, the family hijinks remain the same. My kiddos have watched every single episode and maybe even twice! I’ve listened to it play so often, that I’m pretty sure I recognize a couple of celebrity voices playing our favorite characters. The Croods and Netflix will be along for the ride with my family as we embark on a new year together.
