Ever since my son was old enough to enjoy an ice cold pop, his favorite has been A&W® Root Beer. When he was little, he’d call it Beer Pop, but now he asks for it by name, “Mom, can I please get an A&W Root Beer?” It’s his favorite treat and he’d choose it over a dessert any day.
Over the years, A&W has become a family favorite as well. Birthdays, special occasions, and family events always have cold A&W nearby. It’s the number one requested pop at all of our birthdays and we love a good root beer float movie night.
And during the summer, our favorite beverage is along for our adventures. Demolition derby afternoons, beach days, fishing trips, and all of the fun adventures we have.
I’ve incorporated his favorite flavor into various desserts, but our family favorite by far has been my Root Beer Float Cupcakes. With A&W celebrating its 100th birthday, I figured there was no better time to whip this recipe out for a true celebration!
This recipe couldn’t be simpler. I can get all of the ingredients right up the road at my local Walmart. A box of cake mix, a can of frosting, cupcake liners, fun straws, and we can’t forget the crowning jewel: A&W Root Beer.
I start with a box of chocolate cake mix and add it to a mixing bowl (one with a pour spout works best). And I add in one can, or one and a half cups, of A&W Root Beer to it and give it a stir.
From there, I transfer the batter into a lined cupcake pan.
And I bake them at 350F degrees for about 18 minutes.
Once the cupcakes have cooled, I coat them with vanilla frosting.
Then I smear the frosting around to resemble slightly melted ice cream. You can also swirl it around like soft serve ice cream! I did a little of each. I add in a trimmed down straw.
And there you have it, Root Beer Float Cupcakes! They’re just as much fun to eat as they are to look at!
With the warmer weather finally here in Northern Michigan, our front porch has become my family’s favorite place to enjoy snacks, and even a meal or two! I love to bring out a tray filled with the fun cupcakes out to the front porch for the kiddos to enjoy between bike tricks and scooter rides. Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here enjoying my Best Mom Ever crown.
I love how the kids turned the straws into little spoons to scoop the delicious cake into their mouths! And I love how quintessentially summer this whole scene on my front porch looks when they’re all out here snacking on their A&W Root Beer Float Cupcakes.
