Don’t Go Bacon My Heart, a Valentine’s Day Breakfast Recipe

Mostly, our mornings consist of rushed waffle making in the toaster, grabbing jackets, and making sure homework is tucked in backpacks all in a mad dash to the door. But weekends are much more relaxed and harmonious. The entire family sleeps in, and even if it’s just 15 minutes more than it is on a school morning, the glorious extra quarter hour seems to give everyone exactly enough sleep to greet the morning with a happier, less crazed state of mind. You can find us on any given Saturday morning in the kitchen making breakfast burritos or the newest french toast casserole recipe I discovered on Pinterest while the boys both enjoy some free-for-all screen time on their iPad or tablet. Evelyn likes to plop down directly in front of the fridge, on the kitchen floor, amid Mama and Daddy’s footsteps, only after she receives her morning cup of grapes. The moment breakfast is finished, we tuck away our screens and swap them for family time around the table. Silly stories and funny faces are passed around and we focus simply on being together, really hearing one another, and making a Saturday love bubble. Saturdays are for lovins, for family, for grapes, and for real breakfasts at the table. Somehow, amid the blended chaos of graveyard shifts, school agendas, and a crazy blended family schedule in our life, Saturdays come together in harmonious bliss with this breakfast ritual.
I first discovered these adorable little bacon heart creations years ago from blogger friend, Chelsey, The Paper Mama, and knew instantaneously that they’d make the cut for our Saturday tradition (they’re also a perfect Valentine’s Day breakfast recipe idea). I recreated these little hearts of breakfast joy and received great response from my family. Today, I’m sharing this particular Saturday morning breakfast with you and cheering you along, orange juice in hand, to create a family love bubble of your own this Saturday.
First thing you’ll do is cut some bacon in half. Next, you’ll form two pieces into a lovely little heart and place them on a baking sheet (one with edges so it doesn’t spill grease all over the inside of your oven).
Last, stick ’em in a nice hot oven and let them get really crispy. Or chewy if you prefer, but crispy bacon is practically a religion in our home.
Enjoy them along with some french toast and orange juice. And your family love bubble, of course.
